I love my bike :)
06/18/10 at 19:11:42

I came here and to the yahoo forum before I bought a bike.  I was looking at sportsters to rebels.  I'm a new rider.  So after seeing all you guys' nice savages i bought one.  I finally got a permit, and i've been driving all day on backroad two-lane highways in VT and NH around the connecticut river.

I must say that driving over 50mph still kinda scares me, but i think that's probably good.

oh before i had a permit, i swapped my 2001 bars for a set of sportser generic 1inch bars.   perfect fit.

i had so much fun riding today.

my friends kids were like "you're here again?" cuz i kept showing up
on my bike.

i'm celibrating with a few beers.
(don't worry im off the bike till the morning Smiley

thanks all,
paul

Good on ya, Paul. Take your time and enjoy the ride. First you get good, then you get fast. Many have proven the other way doesn't work so well.

There are PLENTY of guys over on the gixxer.com board that have proven that point.

Enjoy the ride Paul and remember to never let anyone else push you into riding beyond what your comfortable. That's a sure fire way to get into trouble or the painful road-rash kind.

It was unsettling, the strange sounds I heard occasionally, just riding down a country road. Hadnt ridden in many years & my wife got me one of these, long story, but she figured I needed it. Amyway, after I heard the noise a couple of times, I finally figured out what it was. It was unbridled laughter. I didnt even realize it at first, but I was literally riding along, laughing. The sense of freedom is just more than I can describe.

* NOTE:
I was on a long, winding, country road every time that happened. I do not recommend becomming so enamored with the sensation of riding that laughter is spontaneous when in, or even in sight of, traffic.

Have fun, ride safe.
Did you take the riders course?

No riders course, but I am looking into it.

I'm still on my permit.
No passengers, night riding, or crossing over into NH.
(I don't like the idea of having a passenger anyways.  it's one thing to risk my own life ... Smiley

I'm taking it slow and easy for now.

Sometimes wish I could go back to those days.

Take the course. Ask any of us who've been riding a couple decades or more, all of us have bad habits that the course would have prevented.

Hauling a passenger is no big deal, as long as she has a butt like an anorexic pre-teen. Any bigger and the screams of excruciating pain get distracting. These are pretty much solo machines.

Have a couple and ride around your yard, you'll never drink and ride again.

Welcome to the forum. The Savage and its followers are more addictive than opiates... Trust me, I've had 2 VN 800s in the last few years and keep ending up here, on my Savage. Even my 1957 Harley is contentedly rotting away.
