How long should your rear brakes last.. I dunno if mine are good still good or not but they squeek when I use them.. I've got 9k, bought the bike used with 8k on it.. fronts look like they've got plenty of pad left..  seems like a pain to check.. drums..

I'd be interested too...my rears squeak a lot...I have 8200 miles.
I'm getting new tires and have to take the wheels off anyway so if brakes need to be done I'm doing that too.
Any thoughts on these?

Not a pain to check.  There's a mark on the outside of the drum that shows the acceptable range.  Just depress the pedal and see where the mark on the rear lever points.  But even if they're ok you might want to replace them anyway with a better pad to stop the squeaking.

There's a line scribed on the end of the brake arm shaft.
Supposed to indicate when it needs replacing.

My front and rears used to squeal like banchee's.
Used to make a pretty good hi-lo siren.
Now it's gone away darn it.
Most likely cause now I use them all the time.
someone said they got to get hot, then they stop.
so I used them every time I want to slow a little, hi speed braking, engine braking, etc.  Of course after 46k on one bike and 30 on another, I don't think they wear out.  So who cares if they squeal, use them anytime you want someone to know you are there.  believe me, nothin' gets there attention like a squealin' brake.

My front caliper pads were toast in 3,000 miles.
EBC replacement pads are good for about 12,000.

I am just clear of 30K.  I have three sets of front pads, and have the fourth in the pads in the bags new one set ready for about a thousand.  The shoes are on the garage waiting the shoes as I am still waiting the original rears, and looking thick -- just I got the Metzler and will with checking in about 10-15K.

Everyone rides different.  I am HARD on the first brakes, the rear off never touched.
