Difficulty opening oil filter compartment (Read 93 times)

The bolts on it are extremely tight and it feels as if i'll break the allen key when i try to unscrew it. Any advice?

Either apply oil to the threads when reinstalling or anti-sieze.

When you go back together, use antisieze.

A light tapping to drive the allen wrench to loosen it is handy. Dont smack it hard. You can use a very l;ight oil/penetrating oil, then give the screws a quick, light smack or 2, driving the allen bolts in like a nail. I didnt say use a nail..Take your time, wrecked bolt heads or busted bolts takes a lot longer than being careful.

yes indeed take care now! Avoid the broken bolt.

1. heat the piece, avoid heating the bolt if you can. Propane torch is cheap. But isn't this aluminum? I don't know how much heat is too much for aluminum so I would go easy on it, maybe it's not a problem.
2. if it doesn't come right out cold OR hot, then try a very small amount of TIGHTEN, then some LOOSEN.
2a. tapping is good. Don't just keep torquing. If aluminum then it's pretty soft so I wouldn't tap hard or pull long.
3. focus on not breaking the bolt. Broken allen key is not the problem.

I hope to remember this before I break another bolt.

I think it has a 3/8" rachet drive, adapter down to 1/4" and a 5/16" socket with a allen wrench tip I also find that tightening bolts sometimes helps break them loose
