What do you think about this plug?

NGK (2202) DPR8EIX-9 Iridium IX Spark Plug

Factory tool kit is AWOL huh? No worries, saves you from throwing stuff across the yard when (not if) the "tool" fails.

17mm plug socket, extension, ratchet. Confirm at Autozone, they carry NGK D series bike plugs. Stock is DPR8EA-9, all d-series plugs take the same socket.

No need for something that pricey on a Savage. I generally run a Champion or Autolite from Wal-mart unless the NGKs are on sale somewhere.

You can clean your stock plug fairly easily. Just hit it with a bit of 220 grit sandpaper and knock off any accumulated gunk.

I can pick you up a stock type plug wrench if you need me to. Should run about $10. IF the shop has the right one.
