My 200.00 savage  deal or no deal?
05/31/10 at 16:56:44

I'ts missing the starter and solenoid, a side frame cover and the left foot peg isn't right.  the right mirror mount is broken,  but i found all the parts on ebay for 86.00 should be here this friday.  oil looks fresh and the plug has never been fired.    I though for less than 300.00 and a little work,  if it starts it was a pretty good deal

Heck yeah it's a deal  Cheesy  Looks like more than $200 worth of parts in the picture, even if it doesn't run right away.

Clean seat, nice paint, tires look decent enough from what can be seen of them. Switch boxes and master cylinder look oxidized, nothing some paint or polish won't take care of.

If you can get her to fire off and run I'd say you got the deal of the century. Get some clamp on mirrors, the stock ones are pretty useless anyway. Grind off the factory mounting lugs, polish up the housings and ride the wheels off of it.

Good snag.

What year?
How many miles?

I'm guessing some engine work
black cylinder, is it painted or does it look stock?
silver head, could of been replaced if the cylinder looks stock.

if this is a pre 95 then check over the starter mounting.

It's an 87,  the cylinder looks painted,  it's rough paint, and i can see a spot with over spray.,   the tires are like brand new,  no checks or cracks.  i figured the tires were worth the 200.00.   I bought parts off of  ebay from a 95.  starter, solenoid, cdi box, compression release cable and wires.   I didn't have any luck catching it in gear.  with the wires hooked together,  it didn't even try to fire.  back wheel just slid.
Hopefully the parts i got will fit and work as they should.. [/img] [/img]

Looks nice.    Take the plug out and raise the rear wheel off the ground and put it in high gear, and rotate teh wheel and see if you can get the engine to turn over.

The place where the starter goes is a known "black hole" for dropped parts.  With the starter out, that black hole can have parts drop direectly into the left side cover and into the guts of the engine.   Be careful.

thanx, for all the advice,  with the plug out it will roll forward and i can hear the piston going.  when the plug is in it won't go forward.  even in fourth gear the rear wheel just slides.  it will roll backward,  but not forward.   I know that doesnt sound right, but if any one would like to try?  i've been pushing this little thing up the hill now for a couple of days,  (it's really not that light)

I read on another post,  that there are two washers for the starter,  and since i didn't remove it,  i'm wondering if they fell in the hole?  I tried to look in there with a mirror,  but know luck,  and i'm a little concerned with taking the case off,  I don't have a service manual,  and this is my first time on this bike.  i'm going to poke around in there with a flexible magnet and see if i can fish anything out.

I'm hoping it's the compression release,  but the batter is fully charged 12.9 on my meter anyway,  and i don't hear anything when i hit the start button.  I found the compression release under the tank wires look good,  and so does the cable.  i pulled on the cable,  it didn't move.  i was going to jump 12v to it,  but alittle worried about that as well.    I'll take picks of the parts i get,  and hopefully all you great people will walk me through this.  I gottal feeling i'm going to be an expert by the time i get this thing going.   thanx again.

simple enough to drop off the right side case to look for dropped parts
may as well check the cam chain tensioner while its opened up.
