Muffler Mod
05/24/10 at 05:45:43

So I tried to be cheap and wanted a different sound without spending any money. I drilled 4 13/64 inch holes in the back muffler to give it a little voice. Now she pops and backfires a little when cruising and I let off the throttle. Everything was fine before this. Any suggestions as to why now?!
I already did the 1/2 spacer mod before all of this. I'm I running to rich now?! Any help would be appreciated! Lips Sealed

how does your sparky look?
how much soot out the back?
do you have leaks at the header or muff?

New spark plug and there is no soot coming from the back. I just wonder why 4 holes in the muffler would cause this problem.

It wouldn't make you run richer, the stock pipe made the backfire quieter.

more holes= less back pressure = leaner
have you looked at your new plug since drillin?
your electrode color will tell ya if your lean(my bet) or rich..then go to tech section and look up basic carb tuning(thanks to lancer!)

Drilling 8 holes in mine never changed much, except the exhaust is a little louder, and the backfiring is maybe a touch louder too. Mine always did backfire on decelleration,.....I consider it kinda normal.

The backfire saved my life once, makes a dandy deer repellant!   Cheesy
