Bike dies going down hill
05/08/10 at 12:10:15
So this has happened twice now in the same place. It is a short but step hill with a stop light at the bottom. When I clutch in to break for the light the engine just dies. I can hit the starter and she fires right back up(still on the incline). I have had no other problems. Any ideas?

Fear not, the engine is not needed going down hill. When you are on level, start it back up and go up hill under power.

Hmmm... strange challenge. Low fuel level in the carb bowl?

Idle might be set to slow.

My idle is set at 1600 (I have a tech). I am running a raptor petcock on a vn 750 tank. It was just filled yesterday and died this morning. I cleaned the carb about a month ago. It does not sputter or choke it just dies as soon as the clutch is pushed in. I was even able to restart while still rolling down the hill.

Nope. I have no other problems. Well, a slight deceleration pop but that's it.

1600 is a little high for the idle, but that's not the problem...
Try lubing the kickstand...

I have EdL's Forward controls. The kickstand switch has been disabled, if that is what you are getting at.

I've got to say... great sig wolf.
The high idle and going down hill engine braking have got to be the clue.
generally, high rev decel to idle peoples engine die cause of low idle.
So, with your high idle speed you may not have a good idle adjustment.
So when it dips down there it falters and dies.

I will lower my idle and see if that helps. 1300 sound right?

not saying high idle is bad, just wondering if it's masking the problem.
adjust your carb in the 1000 to 1200 range then boost it up to where you like it.
btw, my bike will run that high when it's hot

Is there any white smoke before it dies ? Under hard hi rpm decelleration, manifold vacuum is maxed out, and any weakness in valve guides or seals will let excessive oil into the cylinder,.....possibly causing missing spark ?? Hey,....its a guess

Check that you have free play in the throttle cable.
