GPS

I am thinking of buying a RAM mount to use my GPS on my bike. Wondering if it is worth spending the money on and if other riders have found GPS useful to them. I'm afraid it might be a distraction as well. Love to hear anyone's 2 cents!

although I don't have one for the bike, i find gps very handy.
you can keeps your eyes and mind on the road and traffic rather than where you are going... er, yeah, something like that   Roll Eyes

there's no way you're going to be puttin' addresses while riding anyway.
get a blue tooth hook up and just listen to the directions and put the dern thing in your pocket.

I find it hard to read my Garmin in the sunlight and have to stop and shade it.  Usually use it to see where I'm going and write directions on a 3x5 card I can refer to quickly. Use it lots in the truck here in AZ to find our way around. Max

I have  Garmin with a Ram mount. I use it for a spedo. Don't need to look down at the tank. The Garmin has a nice big readout so it is easier to read at a glance. It is also handy on long trips to plan fuel stops, etc.  A paper map will also do this, but its easier to just get the distance from where you are to where you are going with a GPS.

http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTORCYCLE-BIKE-HANDLEBAR-MOUNT-HOLDER-GARMIN-NUVI-GPS-/2...  if you have a garmin and don't mind waiting a mo for the shipping this can be had for 5 bucks.

I have a universal gps holder on mine and it's great.. It is hard to read in the sun if you can't get it in the right angle and works good as a speedo.

Thanks!  Cheesy

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

I use a Magellan on a handlebar mount, and +1 on using it for Speedometer.  I can see it by just shifting my eyes, not my whole head.  Also has a clock displayed, so I know whether the school zone speeds are in effect, since I can't see my watch to check the precise time.

Wow, that's pretty inexpensive. Does the Nuvi's cradle just pop on to the ball? Does it feel sturdy? Oh and 1 more question, are you running it off your battery? Thanks

Is a Garmin Nuvi 260. One of there less expensive models. Its not weather proof but works well and works with gloves on. I will be doing a 2v power supply soon.

I also purchased a rubber cover to help protect it.

Here's a couple pic of it on the C50. Its the same setup as the S40

What the hell do you need GPS on a Savage for? You can "SEE"" from one gas stop to the next. Smiley

I use a TomTom One. I used velcro under the speedo. For key on only power I used a water proof lighter socket T-tapped into the headlight wires and strapped to the bars between the risers. Works great.
Speaking of gas stops; any ideas on carrying a spare tank-can-etc?
