First, I have to say that you have done a great job in creating a clean lined hard tail that many people will probably drool over!!!

Looking at the pics though, what's the tube under the seat for? (I'm guessing it's just a stash box for tools/registration/etc)  Huh

Thank you for the compliment!  The tube (or can) under the seat is the electronics box.  It houses the fire-pack and the starter solenoid.  It also contains the yards and yards of unused wire from the original harness.  The reason I left the harness intact: you can install turn signals and a decomp solenoid if you like.  I never intended on keeping the bike, but I have to admit...  I'm starting to REALLY like it!  Maybe I'll trim down the wiring harness and install a Wassell tank!  Oh... and a 16" rear wheel!

I love the look but have no interest in a hardtail. Ever considered trying a plunger frame? Hardtail look that sissys like myself would enjoy. Id definately buy up a plunger frame for the savage (checkbook permitting).

Very nice work from a fellow Texan, I like it.  Smiley

I was thinking about swinging the exhaust up like that for a Savage street tracker. Looks good.

Any issues with not using the decompression solenoid?

Well... The whole purpose of the rigid frame is to reduce the clutter and make the bike as clean as possible.  Having a softail with a single shock would might not be much removed from the original assembly.  Check out this thread!  http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1264727267 and you might see the complexity involved!  Nice work on this bike!

I was a "little" worried about it at first, but after seeing how the assembly functions, I realized that as long as there is no tension on the decomp cam, there is no effect on the valve clearance.  I left my cable connected just in case I need to relieve the pressure at some point.  I have not needed to so far...

Hey- You're welcome buddy!!!  You could do an entire rebuild (including my frame) for around $1500!  Let me know when you're ready and I'll have you cut off your neck tube and mail it to me.  I'll return your custom frame in a week or so!
