Re-packing aftermarket muffler

I have an aftermarket muffler on my S40. It's the type with a baffle wrapped in fiberglass. It's fairly open and loud. Has anyone tried to pack additional fiberglass into this kind of muffler to make it a little quiter and restore some back pressure?

I did. I have a pipe that came off of a HD Dyna. Came with no baffle and no glass packing. Packing it did nothing to the back pressure, inner tube is rather large, but it's much more quiet and comfortable to ride. Here it is:

i got a super trapp that uses the packing..
the packing in mine always gets very hard turns brittle and chips away over time.
for mine, they only thing i noticed the packing did was stop the end of the baffle from ratteling inside there, of course when the packing turned hard and starts cracking i get new noises.... i said the hell with it after half dozen times or so

here is a link for two brothers stainless steel wool packing. i had 4000 miles on it with my dr650 when i sold it. for sure it lasts longer than fiberglass.

If you are using fiberglass to repack the muffler start it for the first time outside, not in the garage or shop. There is a lot of loose fibers in the packing that will blow all over everything if you start it indoors. I found this out the hard way, man that stuff made me itch

Or do what I did - do it in a friend's garage!!
This steel wool is looking good. You might go with that.

You mean ex friend, the cleanup had to be worth two or three sixpacks.
