Ok, first of all, thanks Lancer-you're the man! I wish you sold the same kinda kits for HDs CV carbs!

Anyway, 08 S 40. All stock save for an open 1 3/4" fishtail pipe. Where should I start with jetting?? I'm in Hampton, Va. Elevation, roughly 10'+ above sea level.
I did make a baffle for the pipe, to give some of the bottom end back, I may make a tighter one though. I'm felling like maybe the 155 main and 55 pilot?? I don't know how much air flow the factory box/filter hinders, but with an open pipe I know its running lean. I've got the mix out 3.5 turns and she pops like crazy on decel...

What do you 'experienced' guys think about this?? Should I start lower and use the shims from the kit??

Actually, I do have a kit for an HD CV carb.
i had a sporty until a yr or 2 ago.

It has:
-replacement slide spring
-carb top gasket
-42 &44 pilot jets
-170 & 175 main jets
-rreplacement needle
-rep. needle jet
-drill bit 7/64
-2 sml worm clamps
-4 ss allen head screws for top w/ allen wrench
-EZ-Just idle mixture needle

plus several pages of instructions

It cost me about $100

Every thing is new and still packed as I received it.  Sold the bike before I got a chance to insall it

If you can use it and want it then say $55 incl shp.

drilling (with the drill bit provided) the holes in the bottom of the slide slightly larger allows the slide to move a little more briskly and improves throttle response

all the parts, other than the pilot and main jet sizes will work on any of the CV series carbs.

the EZ-just  screw which was lilke $20+ by it self I think, replaces the factory screw and you no longer need a screw driver to adjust it.  It has a knurled knob that stick out so you can just reach under the carb and turn it at any time if it needs fine tuning...very handy.
