Rocco,
I'm really getting tired of going over to your place all the time and loosening that vacuum hose just to make you crazy.   Put the Raptor petcock on and be done with it.  Grin

I haven't tried the raptor route.  When my petcock went T.U. I just bit the bullet and bought a new one from the dealer.  I think I gave about 80 bucks for it.  It was worth every penny.  I haven't had a problem since.

Generally speaking, I'm opposed to buying anything I could fix with enough duct tape and bailing wire, but in this case, I'm glad I went ahead and spent the money.

The time involved in the baling wire/duct tape repair & the potential for trouble down the road( sorry, it was just too easy), makes spending the $$ on some repairs the beter choice. Ive built things I could have bought & spent way too much time & the end product wasnt as good as what was available for cheap... Win a few , lose a few, Pilgrim.,.I do build quite a few things that I do well with, Its hard to decide sometimes, if its a project to build, or something to buy..

I agree with this whole heartedly. I thought about (and read the Clymer's ) about adjusting my valves. I deceided to take it to my local dealer. They adjusted my valves and lubricated all of my cables for $54.00. Tax included. I felt that was a pretty good bargain and I know it was done right.  Smiley

Thats the way to go,A lot of people on here would have less trouble with their bikes if they did that.

Strange how our brains work.  I have done several valve adjustments now, with no trouble at all.  I'm not a mechanical whiz by any means, but that one just isn't as tough as it sounds like it would be.  Once I got over the fear of the unknown and just went for it, it was a snap.  Having done it once, I'd never pay someone else to do it now.

The old petcock, however, still lays in a pile of tiny pieces in my desk drawer, unfixed.  I'll probably buy another one if mine goes bad again.

Where I'm located, the local dealer won't touch anything over 10 years old.
I can kind of understand,as I used to work in a garage and some people will invariably come back in a week with a totally unrelated problem and expect a free repair because "You worked on it last, and it wasn't doing this before!"
My answer was always "Well, everything works til it breaks, doesn't it?"
That said,I do my own work anyway,so that leaves me no one to yell at when something goes wrong! Smiley
I'm just about to discover the joys of petcock repair,as mine crapped on the way to work this morning!Oh well,at least I can work on it here.

Over the winter I did the cone filter mod and the dyna muffler thingy plus changed my directionals to leds etc. I just felt that I wanted someone else to do the valves and the cable lube. The local dealer (HD, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Etc) is very fair with the pricing. My labor was .9 hours. Not many places that wouldn't round that up.  Smiley

I agree, that does seem like very fair pricing on the work you had done. And,yes,I couldn't tell you that I've EVER gotten billed for.9 hours!
Again, though,my local dealer won't touch my '96.I just finished converting my petcock to manual operation.(Had to,couldn't get home from work if I didn't!)Looking at the timestamp, that was 5 hours.(Actually took about 1.5 hours, but the dang people keep wanting me to do work at work! The nerve of some people! Smiley)

LOL! i had zero trouble all weekend, she gets moody sometimes ya know  Cheesy

i'll run it in prime, or i'll freaking change the lines again if i have to

i'd rather ride her now(nice warm weather) then take her apart again lol

i'm all about fixing her on the cheap, and if i can't do it i'll find someone who can or pay and have it done from someone i trust!

i was talking to a guy who makes custom wheels, and he said a builder who makes ratty bobbers bike went on fire while riding. when asked what happened he said "she was leaking fuel for about 2 hours...i put some chewing gum over the spot" !!!

my kind of thinking  Grin
