It sounds like you were doing ok until you started thinking about it. I bet when you throw a roundhouse kick you aren't thinking about how to get it perfect. Just go by feel dude -stratman

lol i'm not sure now, but i'm doing a little less "holding of the clutch" and no "jerking"
so i guess i solved that, funny how u do things without thinking then someone asks u about it and it messes u all up!
AHHAA!! and stratman u are correct, there's no thinking before a strike u just do it! he who hesitates will meditate in a horizontal position!!!!!

Yep, they taught that in our MSF course too. About the second exercise, after walking the bike in neutral, was "walking" it in gear. Basically, bobbing in and out of the friction zone, letting the engine pull it while you "duck walk" the bike. A good way to get used to where the clutch starts grabbing when starting on an unfamiliar bike.
On a semi-unrelated note, I noticed the C50 seems to have a slightly lower 1st gear. I can idle through parking lots a lot slower, where I had to do the "in and out" thing with the clutch on the Savage at the same speed.

I didn't know about the C50, but,....exactly right,.. it seems like the savage does have a higher 1st gear than other bikes I've had of the same caliber in past years. Doesn't bother me to have to "clutch it" at times. But I wouldn't want to ride it in a typical slow moving long parade.
And I don't know where the clutch-ing being "different than a car" comes from ? Or the difference in operation tween a wet clutch or a dry clutch ??
Or difference tween a motorcycle and a gituar

Sounds like your doing fine
Good Practice is a parking lot (empty) and and few hours of time.
1) learn the fiction zone and how to straddle walk the bike
2) learn smooth starting in first
3) Practice breaking with both rear and font. (hand and foot)
4) Practice turning. Use the parking lines and try figure 8's
I really like Captain Crash his 60sec lessons are good.
His longer ones like "bike's gotta lean", "friction zone" and the "Apex Zone" very valuable.

Those are some decent videos. I think you should start a new thread with the link, and put Capt Crash in the Subject, to make it easy to find for reference.
But I guess I can do that...

Am I right in thinking that your idle speed will come into play here? I suspect we have a mixture of idle speeds on here from maybe 800-1300. The higher it is set the faster you will go in 1st with no throttle, yes?
