okay, I know this might sound a little ridiculous, but I let my friend borrow my bike for a month or two, and when I went to get it back, it's making kind of a high-pitched metallic "chirping" or pinging sound. I started her up the other day and walked around the bike to try to hear where the sound was coming from. It sounds like it's coming from the muffler. What does that mean--that it's coming from the engine?
Because I figured I wouldn't be able to describe the sound very well, I made a recording. The quality is terrible, but you can hear the high-pitched chirping sound if you listen closely. The sound of the engine changes as I move the recorder various places around the bike:
chirp.mp3Any ideas? The bike seems to be running fine as far as I can tell, but it's gonna become my only means of transportation for a while so I wanna make sure it's running well. It's got less than 3000 miles on it, and it's a '96.
I had a petcock problem for a while and I think some fuel may have leaked into the engine, but it was a small amount so I just figured it'd burn off. I left oil with my friend and showed him how to check it while he had it as well.
