Bettie's new 'do with pics

WHEW! I finally got Bettie back to an acceptable riding condition, a new paint job, and finished (hah!) the air filter cover. Still got some more ideas kicking around though.

You changed Bettie's hair color again, huh? Looking good, but I think I personally like the white/black that was before. I think Rocco might just "borrow" your idea on lightening the belt guard, and flat black of course.
Really liked the twin stripes on the fender and the top of the tank too.
Good job, loved the pics.

So it was black when you got it, then you went to black/white, then to black/silver? I love the black/silver. Very nice! Creative, different, but not too crazy. You do the paint yourself?

thanks,
the white "swoop" didn't quite work out as well as I envisioned, so I did lots of pondering for the scallops (I think thats the correct term)
It is a good 20/50 paint job, 20 feet at 50 mph. the silver is laquer and caused some bubbling on the fender, was ready to toss it at that point but didnt want to prolong it any more.
I also found out the textured metallic Duplicolor paint melted on the sides of the engine cases, so now that is cast iron grea with some rustoleum textured, matches the other parts close enough. I did see some wrinkle engine paint, but in black, oh well there is next year.
the belt guard metal is HARD!!!!!, it really took some work to get them drilled.

nicely done! i can imagine how hard it was drilling ! i drilled 3 holes in the header bracket, a little crooked but i got it done....i don't have the patience like you do!
and i already painted my belt guard flat black...along with most of the bike

That is great goat. Very nice job. Mind if I steal a couple of your ideas? I really like the drilled out belt guard.

have at it Yonuh, I predrilled the holes with a 3/8" bit.
Even so, the larger holes did not come out really cleanly and I had to clean up the jagged edges with a stone chucked up in my hand drill, just the clean up wasted a new stone.

I'm wondering if a Uni-Bit might drill it more cleanly?

Dude!!!
I love what you did with the side tins!
Cuting a hole in the front pulley cover is way better than anything that I ever thought of! Can I steal that?
I always thought that the chain guard on this bike looked like it should be on something twice as big. What you did was take a piece of crap, and turn it into a piece of art.
My hats off to you man!

all ideas are available for a nominal fee..... cash, check, or money orders
lol
I think the hole in the pulley cover would be better smaller, maybe with some holes the same size as in the belt guard, I keyed off of the circle from the stator.
I have never used a unibit, as long as it is a good quality metal, I suppose it would work.
I did it in 2 steps, maybe an intermediate step would make the final cut cleaner.
The left side tin worked out well, the mesh I used (gutter cover from lowes) wasnt wide enough to cover the right side tin in a single piece, so I added the cross piece. If I do it again, I would use a round hole perforated metal mesh rather than the expanded metal. would probably go better with the lightening holes.

does the air filter being open like that change anything?

I have the home brew foam filter and rejetted carb (a little on the rich side) and some lightening holes in the plastic airbox door anyway, so I think it is nominally better this way
