MUFFLER TIPS AND TRICKS???
04/06/10 at 00:21:12
Okie dokie here are a couple of questions for the veterans of SS out there.
1. I purchased a Dyna muffler and I want it just a TAD louder than it is I like the low rumble but I want a ear piercing thumpthy thump thump at the throttle rasp.
2. if i drill 3.....1/4 inch holes at the baffle will I acheive this?
3. my pipe is blueing at the connection???? Is this a sign of an exauhst pipe that has an air leak somewhere??

start with ONE hole and test. I have a dyna exhaust with no baffle. It's loud. Very loud.
Blueing is fairly normal at the joint. Cover it up with heat shield of some sort. Test for leaks by closing the exhaust end shut while idling. You'll hear it shhhh

Or 3 holes @ 3/16.
A 1/4" hole has near twice the area as a 3/16

I modified my Dyna to make it louder, and it is very easy to do. I used a 12' long, 5/16 dia. drill bit. While the Dyna is on the bike, snake the drill bit into the muffler through the rear of the muffler. You will butt up against the baffle. Place the bit at the 12 o'clock position on the baffle. Drill it through the baffle. Ride the bike and see what you think.
If its not loud enough, drill the baffle again, this time at the 6 o'clock position. Drive the bike again, and if it still isn't loud enough, drill another hole at the 3 o'clock position. With 3 holes, its going to be very loud. If you still aren't satisfied, you can drill yet another hole at the 9 o'clock position. But each time you drill a hole, be sure to road test it first. You'd be surprised how much louder it will get.

Pretty expensive way to get an open exhaust, aint it?

it sounds like an expensive way
So, from what I gather, this supertrapp gets louder with MORE disks!! That makes no sense at all, but I find that all over forums. Can somebody elaborate?

The more disks you have leaves more cracks for the sound to get out.

No disks & no end cap = open exhaust.
6 or so disks & an end cap = about stock.
15 disks & an end cap = nowhere nearstock. Disks can be added or removed to tune exhaust flow to carb jetting.

I see. The mo-disk-mo-noise formula only works WITH end cap.

It came that way JOG, and I like it just fine. There
is
back pressure in there, not like the straight pipes I ran on my Sportsters.
