looks like heavy spring steel to me.

It doesn't look as strong as our stock fender to me,... (which is pretty darn beefy, double thick steel)...

Putting on my theoretical thinking cap....

...the bracing is more about reducing fork twist, than equalizing up/down travel....
If uneven up/down travel were occurring in any significant amount,... your front axle nut would soon let you know, by stripping out, or snapping in two...

Ooouchie!... Huh...

On both my 125 & 350LC Yamahas I fited a tubular fork brace, they had 1/8" plate on the mudguard mounts with two loops of 3/8" tube over the guard and a tube between the two loops in line with tire centerline.
The 350 was good but the 125 was better still due to the single disc trying to twist the forks so I would expect a brace of any kind to be good on the Savage.

I'm w/ others,....if that brace does any good at all, then that blows my whole thinking of what a fork brace would be required to do.

Those of you with good balance and no fork brace...
Roll up to a stop using only the front brake.
Release the brake.
What happens?
you suddenly loose your balance.
why... unequal fork flex

riding down the road...

Fork braces holds the top of the sliders at constant distance.
This makes the sliders support each other and the main tubes as well.

thats not all  the brace does. I use braces for a totally different reason.

Try this little test. Stand in front of the bike looking at it. Hold the front wheel with your legs. Now try to turn the handle bars.

The SHOULDNT turn, but guess what, they do.

This is just normal flex in the forks.  Braces eliminate most of that.

The same thing is basically happening when you ride down the road. The wheel being a gyroscope it doesn't want to turn.  Fork braces help turn in and front end feel.  But most savages are not ridden hard enough for that to matter.

Here is the fork brace I started today.

He probably has the easy part done. You mite have to wait a few more hrs for a price. Even for a genuine machinist, making just 1 can be very time consuming.
And the fun part,....one wrong move, you could have to start over ! :'(

your exactly right Routy. This design I did was meant to be one off. Its very labor intensive and wouldn't make sense to mass produce.

Im already about 4.5 hours into this one. The sheetmetal part should be fun.
