Rear blinker relocate
03/20/10 at 20:44:16

Hi I just finished a rear blinker relocation for the addition of saddlebags.

This was inspired and mostly stolen from Marine5317.

The beginning.  I broke my rear sig.

Turn signals removed.

Clip that wiring!

Get the blinker fixed in the mean time.

Wire the extension in.

All spliced and taped.

Cut the new mount.  (again I used a $3.00 shower curtain rod, as Marine had).  Mine is pretty flimsy and may upgrade to a $5.00 version (LOL) for more stability now that I have learned how it goes.

Need some holes.

Mounting.

New wiring thru new mount.

Support for blinker.  Very important!  I may replace the clear tubing I had laying around with some hard rubber bushing.

Blinker wired up.  Notice the clear tubing is not on there and the blinkers were very saggy.  (no pic)  Is anything saggy good??

Relocated!

Wiring behind plate mount.  Looks pretty tight!

Pics say it all I think.  I'd be glad to answer any questions if needed.
Thank you SuzukiSavage!

I like it!  I could probably even manage to do it!
2 Questions:

   1) Do the wires for both signals come down the same side?

   2) What guage wire did you need/use?

Thanks/  BTW, great Step by Step pictures & instructions.

Same thing, only different. Savage blinkers & 1/2" EMT, hidden behind the license plate bracket. Cool

I ran the left signal down the left side of the fender and the right down the right.  Then brought them together at the back and wrapped them around the license plate light wiring and brought them straight down to hide them as long as possible before popping out the back.

I'm not sure what size.  I just got some stranded that looked similar.  On hindsight it was probably a little too thick and not as flexible as I would have liked.  I would take my blinker with me and match up sizes if I was doing it again.

Good luck with yours!   Smiley

For what it’s worth.
Stock flasher wires are 20-22 gage. They run under the sissy bar covers on either side. Left is brown for the power side with return being black with a white tracer. Right side is green for power with the same color return as the left side. The left flasher wire crossed to the right side of the fender at the frame horns. Both flashers connect at terminal blocks on the right side. The terminals can be released by lifting the long finger on the outside of the block.

Possibly add only one thing, proper protection of your wires.
You're crossing one sharp edge and a sharp hole.  Sooner or later they're gonna cut thru.
I would've drilled a center hole thru the plate mounting bracket and your new tube to run the wires thru.
then you can wrap the wire with the existing plate light wires.  And a grommet in the wire entry hole.
And lighter wires would be ok, you got enough copper back there to run a microwave.   Grin

Standard shower curtain size.  Measured it and it's just at an inch outside diameter.
