There are several people that have put other tanks on. I have a vulcan tank that I hope to install within the next two weeks. I will post how I did it once it is on.

I put a 3.25 gallon 1975 sportster tank on mine, looking back I wish I had gone bigger but I didn't know how big or small it was going to be. It gets me further down the road though, and it look alright on my bike.

So... Ive been looking at other HD tanks and many dont seem to have the mount bracket in the valley where the rubber bumpers fit into? So how do you make a HD tank fit and stay.. Also If the new tank doesnt have a spot for the spedo do you go with an aftermarket and mount on the handlebars.... This is getting to be a touchy subject as im Totally sick of constantly refueling. I'm looking for a 4.5-5 gallon tank. I like the road king look also i saw a honda shadow tank that looked like it would fit. any suggestions from anybody?

I don't think you will find any tank that will just pop on. You will most likely have to design and build a bracket. As for the speedo, you can either move the current one to the bars(extend or replace wire harness)or go with an aftermarket speedo. Veypor and acewell seem to be the two people lean towards on this forum. I ordered the veypor last week and it should be here any day. When it arrives I will be be mounting a 750 vulcan tank onto my scoot. I will post pics when it is done.

Firedog
I put a 4.8 gallon tank on my Savage. The tank was from a 1980 GS 750 L Suzuki. I had to relocate the front tank mounts 2 inches further up the frame neck. Also had to fabricate a new rear tank mount. I then installed a after market speedometer.

That's awesome Jimmer. Do you have any pics so I can see your mod. How long does a tank of gas last now?
how long does it take to get to allentown? you are close by me.

I'll take some pictures this week and e mail them to you. I just pull the tank, so I can get you photos of the front bracket relocation and the rear tank bracket. I get about 200 miles. There is still about 1 gallon in the reserve, but by that mileage it's time to get off and stretch. It's about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to Allentown. Pm me a E Mail address and I'll get the pics to you. Just for reference I'm about 30 miles north west of Harrisburg.

Hey, Jimmer, I'd like to see those pics too if it's not too much trouble. I've been looking at maybe doing the Road King tank but i"d love to see what yours looks like and maybe I'll go that route instead. I'll PM my email if that's ok.
