FYI for any Canadian buyers out there McMasters won't ship to Canada.
Anybody offer to buy the 4 piece set for me and have it shipped to your place? I'll pay you via Paypal for the cost of the set, shipping to you, and to me +10%.
Hyde,
If you still want to do this, PM me (sorry, just now saw this post).

.....Thanks for reminding me of that old supplier Digger. They're certainly worth shopping from in many circumstances.

Yep, I like 'em.
Trouble is, whenever I need something specific from them, I feel obliged to pad the order to spread the shipping costs out a bit.
They've got lots of stuff you can't find anywhere else, though.

I bought a small impact screwdriver from Harbor Freight. I think it was 14.00. it is well made and it has worked on every screw I have tried it on so far.
Now, the REAL challenge:
Does anyone know where a guy can buy JIS impact driver bits? Specifically, numbers 1, 2, and 3?

Just hit that screw with that HF impact and it won't matter what it was, it's now whatever that driver is.

I wish I'd seen that before I just ruined a couple of JIS screws, using my usual trick of setting a Makita drill in reverse and letting its clutch "CLACK CLACK CLACK" the screw out.. but unfortunately I was using a regular #2. I ground it to roughly the shape of a JIS bit, but it wasn't good enough.. ruined the screws in exactly 1/4 turn.
On Digger's advice I ordered an Ames Supply screwdriver. Not the little stubby #2, a longer one. The lady called me and said they do not stock it anymore, and there was some other problem with the order ($25 minimum?) They may still have the JIS screwdriver sets though.
I ended up getting the one from "ikasweb" and it was delivered, despite the website quirks.

Nice find, crash.
I think I'll opt for the set just below the one you have pictured. Not sure if they are classified as "impact bits," but they're most likely better that what I've got.
THANKS!

Well, so far, so good. I havent wrecked any JIS heads yet. I do plan on getting some bits & I think Id like to have both sets. The 1/4 electric impact is handy as heck & those long ones w/ the groove around them would fit in there just fine, but therd be no magnet. The smaller "insert" types, that go in a mag driver would be nice, too.
I still have SOme room in the screwdriver drawer..but it is getting a bit cramped in there.
