petcock repair kit

Anybody have a GS petcock?

They make repair kits for these.

If they match up, we got a way to repair them.

We already got two ways to fix them. Convert to manual and/or chuck it for the raptor660 petcock.

I for one would not want to do away w/ the diaphram valve shutoff feature. If not available, what stops a person from cutting a new diaphram from diaphram material. I remember years ago my dad would cut out and replace diaphrams in those little twin diaphram air compressors.

1st - excuse the sh!t out of me. From now on I'll check with you before posting just to be sure my opinion is agreeable to you. Or contact an admin and have me removed for...? Lack of interest in essentially fruitless tinkering?
2nd - My post was half joking. The other half...I don't see a point in repairing and prolonging the use of a petcock thats more complicated and prone to failure than is necessary.
3rd - If you don't like the forum all of a sudden no one is making you stay. You've contributed a great deal here and I appreciate that more than you imagine but if you feel your time and efforts in doing so were misplaced then as i said...no one is making you stay. You can take my bucket of sh!t with you if you like. Or you can find a new solution to a problem thats been solved twice over already.
4th - Ive grown to expect this snippity kind of crap from mick and gort from time to time, but you? Here's something positive to add...cabin fever got you down or irritable? Go to the library and get a book or two instead of belittling fellow members posts and opinions.

Well,.. that was fun... Grin

Gotta' say, I'm with Burn on this one... that Raptor petcock fits so good, and is definitely a simpler, more reliable mechanism,.. and makes tank removal so much easier...  well worth $25 smackers...

BTW,.. Routy... cutting a new diaphragm don't work... it has a molded in, metal stopper thingy (Yes,.. I actually said, thingy!)...

PS... the GS fuel thingy looks very different... am I looking at the right one?...

Well, if there's a kit for it,...  it might work...
How much is the kit?...

If it's close to $20,... I'd rather get a Raptor and be done with it...

$20 for the kit, $10 for the diaphram.

Burn,

The way I see it, there are lots of relatively young and new riders who are drawn to the Savage.  Lots of 'em really like the vacuum shutoff function of the OEM petcock (IF it's working correctly.....oftentimes a big if).

Us old school bikers don't care.  I'm currently rocking a Raptor petcock on mine (see signature) and love it.

However, I fully understand and respect those who would really like a cost-effective solution to keeping the OEM petcock stock and fully functioning.

The GS kit might not work.   Undecided

I was thinking of doing the same thing. I downloaded a bunch of pictures of the GS klt.  then looked at the pict's of in the tech section for the converting the LS petcock to manual and noticed that the metal part is slightly different.

I also remember that someone said that GS Petcock diaphram is slightly larger.

It would make sense that the GS petcock is larger, it has to tap a smaller carb.

I found a list

http://www.sudco.com/k&lfuelsuz.html

It lists the GR650 tempter on it, and that diaphram is used in all the 650's and a lot of others.
