None if they look ok.  OM says the big one, Clymer says the big one only if you remove it, I don't.

I have 22k miles, and have never changed either one... but in case I misunderstand,.... there is one thin one about 4" inch 'round that makes the cover plate seal, and one fat one about 1" inch thick that goes between the filter and the case...

I bought my bike in may 09,the oil and filter had been changed once at 500 mi , now the bike has 2,700mi. I emptied the old oil out in november and refilled it and ran it a few miles, then I stored it for the winter .I didn't change the filter . Do I have to do an oil change and filter in the spring ? Thanks

You don't have to do anything...  Be best to change it...

I often skip the filter every other oil change, but being only the second one in the life of the bike, it may still have some break-in gook on that second filter...

I'd split the difference, and go another thousand miles on the fresh oil, then change them both... Wink
