A late model stock sporty carb is a CV type carb, similar to our own, and they can be set up on our bikes but will of course need to be rejetted with at least pilot and main jets I would suspect, and very possibly with different needle jet and jet needle.
Slap it on the engine and see if fires up as is.................. then go from there.

Remember that carb is running two cylinders but only one at a time, and they are only 441.5 CC's each...... Note: After market Sportster carbs in J&P catalog are 38mm, but my 1100cc Sporty has a 34 mm Keihin (non-cv) carb.

Sportster carbs have accelerator pumps. (Both the CV style and the Keihin BH style on my '86). That means a quick hit of the throttle gives a slightly faster response.

Posts: 57	Re: Sportster carb Reply #10 - 02/11/10 at 14:11:27 ok so i had a brain fart for some reason i thought there carb supplied full to both cylinders at once so i have found that the harley softtail has a 40mm carb and i believe an accelerator pump as well so as soon as i get some money im going to order one and give her a go

I just changed the main jet. The only difference in a stock 883 and a stock 1200 is the main jet in a 883 is a 160 and a 1200 is a 170. I reckon that the 883 carb with a 170 main would probably work fine in a savage.
