Top speed not what it used to be.

I mostly do my running around town where I dont need to go faster then 60. In the past I have gone as fast as 90. Monday I had to make a trip to another office so I jumped on the interstate. I took it easy till the speed limit whent up to 70 and thought I would open it up. Problem is I could not get it above 80.
I have not made any changes to it other then normal maintance. Before I go monkeying with the thing, I thought I should get some ideas what I should look for.
Thanks for the help.
Travis

First,.. I'd check the air filter,.. then try some Seafoam in the tank...
PS,.. thicker air from extra humidity can slow your top speed as well as a headwind...

+1 on suggestions so far.
Get a fresh tank of known good gasoline next up
.
============
A contaminated, "oiled up" stock air filter (paper pleats) can do what you describe real quick like as it won't flow the air right. Right easy to check on that one, also save me your old air filter if you replace it, I have a use for old shot air filters .....
Your bike would run really poorly at all ranges if you had a blocked carb passage or a stuck float bowl. Sea foam would help with those. (btw, additives like Stabil and Sea Foam
if carried a bit too far
can make a bike run like crap -- see my first suggestion up top)
We assume you haven't changed your normal weight of oil or done other sorts of readily identifiable "maintenance" changes lately.
Not changed any jets sizes, tweeked any air screws, etc.
Your header/muffler is tight and your rubber air intake manifold isn't cracked or leaking
. (use a spray tube and spray a very little starting fluid on to the rubber while idling at a set speed and note if it speeds up any)

I replaced the airfilter a couple hundred miles ago. (sorry I did not save the old one) The humidity was a little high was doing a little sprinkling on the way. Ill double check the header bolts they were tight when I swapped the air filter. I have been out of seafoam for a while, will stop on the way home and get some and some starter fluid. Going to ride down to portland at the end of the month want to make sure I can dodge the simis.

Barometer/temp/humidity work to change how it runs. Mine has fast days & slow days. Dont believe you know anything yet, get good gas in it & go run it till its fully warmed up, then hit some speed. Do that on different days & the same road.I sometimes pull the choke part way & see if it picks up a bit, or drops off. Id like it if it dropped off a slight more than pick up.
