Chain conversion Speedo tuner ?

I am considering a chain conversion but want to keep accurate mileage and speedometer readings.
Have any of you ever considered the Speedo Tuner? It is said to work on an M50 what about the M40?
I initially thought of swapping the worm gear, not knowing that it was cut into shaft. The other option is to pry the speedo apart and re-gear on that end. I don't know if our speedo is a straight mechanical unit or electro-mechanical. Can any of you provide some input?

The speedo is a pure mechanical contrivance. The only electrical parts in it are the lights for neutral, high beams and turn signals.

Why does the speedo need to be so accurate? As long as you know what %age the error is, you know how fast youre going, all the time.

The needle is twisted by magnetic induction between two plates. And I believe that is direct drive. Only the odometer is geared.
Change the magnetic strength of the driving plate and you change the calibration of the speedo.
You could probably use a tape head demagnetizier but would be tricky to get it right and no going back.
