Lights out!
12/27/09 at 16:04:22

My husband brought the bikes over to his grandmothers garage for the winter today, and told me my lights and blinkers are out.  I probably won't be touching it again for a couple months, but figured I'd ask if anyone has any ideas off the top of their head?  Thanxxxxxxx if ya do, and thanxxxxxx even if ya don't!!  Cheesy

if a charge doesnt do it go to autozone or where ever and get a cheap 12v thermal flasher relay. About $4. Switch it out with the one under the tank on the right side. If it works there you go. If not make sue you keep your receipt.

edit - scratch that. Relay has nothing to do with the headlight. Probably a dead battery.

I should have mentioned he started the bike right up and rode it to the garage.  I think that rules out dead battery.  Undecided

The front and rear directionals wire from a different point. Is it both front and rear?

lights and ig circuits are on the same fuse, so not fuse.

lights as in head light too?
How about the tank lights?

Could be just a loose connector under the tank, but more likely a loose cannon in the seat.   Grin

When I fired mine up a few weeks ago before the blizzard I noticed my headlight bulb was out, but the high beam works. It was daytime so I didn't notice if the the speedo light was working. Another thing to look for before I take the headlight apart to replace the bulb.

Well I don't know what year her bike is, only that if she's got a tat, she can kick my @$$.  I bet she'll take a lickin' before I stop tickin'.   Wink

My spliced together wiring diagram from clymers is for '96 thru '03
No diodes separatin' the ig from the lights.

The only diode that I know of allows either the sidestand or neutral sensors to disable the starter.

I guess he is figuring a loose or corroded wire coming from the handlebars.  Any chance you've got a scanner and can send me a scan of your wiring diagram, Verslagen?  If not, do you know which color the ground wire is?  For some reason he is thinking it is that one.  Thanks!

Oh, by the way, the bike is a 2000.  Smiley

I have not looked at a wiring diagram, but I had a similar problem with an old Honda. In my case it turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. All the lights would die while driving down a dark road.
