Hard to warm up in the cold
12/17/09 at 07:56:17

When the temp drops into the 50's in Florida, my Savage takes forever to warm up and stalls if you don't let it run for about 3 minutes.  Any suggestions on how to fix this? Cool

Three minutes is forever? If you really worry, turn up the idle a tad - just enough it will keep running. Then go ride it. It warms up MUCH more quickly being ridden than just idling. Up here in Nebraska, fifty degrees would be a pretty decent riding day, if the snow ever melts.  Though there is disagreement over the matter, I personally feel idling an engine to warm it up is a bad idea, because it leads to uneven engine heating especially around the exhaust valves.

Hey thanks!  It takes about a mile of riding before it stops stalling then she does well.  I usually ride at about 60 degrees.  The humidity really gets to you in the summer and winter.

I see it runs better on the first click for a few miles even in summer.

Mine was really cold blooded, ran better at 1 click almost all the time at 1/4 - 1/2 throttle,.......untill I did the white spacer mod. Now when its near freezing is needs a click or 2 for a couple minutes, but then runs perfect at all speeds.
