I got the Savage seats today.  The driver seat fits fine on the S40.  Holes appear to line up just fine.  The rear seat will take a little modification, but nothing major, I think.  If you look at the pic of Gort's seat, pointing toward the back (page 3 of this thread), the little bracket sticking up is for 2 little legs on the underside of the Savage rear seat.  The S40 does not have this little bracket.  The rear of the S40 seat has a bracket attached to the seat which screws into the fender.  So... one could either add a bracket to the fender to stick the 2 legs under, or add a piece directly to the seat and screw it into the existing hole on the S40 fender, which would be the way I'd go.  There will probably need to be something done to attach the rear seat to the driver seat to keep the rear seat in place too, I suspect.  But they do "fit" just fine, as far as covering the rectifier correctly and the rubber bumpers and such.

Many thanks to Paladin and Oldnewguy for the seats!

Making my S-40 a solo was simple. " No, you may NOT ride" has worked every time so far.

Greyhead51,
Although I didn't make a true solo seat, I have cut the stock seat down enough that if someone was on the back, they wouldn't want to be there very long,(only about 1/2 an inch of padding) and I really like the "gunslinger" look, the harley sportster solo seats do not have enough "depth" to them to fit, but if you want to try to modify one, let me know, I have one.

"Yes, those riding pants do make your butt look big," has also been known to work.

the correct answer is " no, those pants don't make your butt look big, your butt makes it look big"

chopping off the rear seat and the fender really makes the bike look small.  I know it's much smaller than a full size cruiser. but with the seat and full fender it just looks like a minature cruiser(so long as there's nobody riding it for a reference).  With the rear seat and fender chopped it almost looks like a naked sport bike.  Maybe that's why it handles so well.(shorter wheel base, tighter fork angle)
