best muffler packing material
12/03/09 at 09:09:49

I need to quieten down a dyna muffler thats been debaffled. What material is best to pack it with, that will last the longest?
There is still a plug that will hold material back. So I need to use something that won't burn I guess. It's for my wife, she wants quiet.
Thanks, Sevier

I suppose fiberglass, but it may need to be more heat resistant than household stuff...
Muffler packing costs about as much as a Sportster cast off...

If your wife really wants quiet, put the stock muffler back on.  No one has ever said that it was too loud.

I repacked the stock muffler using some fiberglass I bought from J.C. Whitney's motorcycle catalog. It came as a roll and was made for muffler repacking. If you do repack a muffler start the bike outside, not in the garage or shop. The packing releases lots of fiberglass fragments which gets all over everything. It's a lot worse than regular fiberglass house insulation, this stuff makes you really itch.

I have a screaming eagle turnout and the only baffle is a perforated piece of sheet metal diagonally through the pipe, was too lod for me.
I put a baffle into the end of my headpipe, less than $10 on Ebay. and that quieted it down pretty well.
JC Whitney has some packing material and baffles pretty cheap
