Sissybar does not fit bike that instructions say!
11/27/09 at 18:07:36

I won a new backrest/sissybar with fender side rails on ebay a few days ago. The auction description said it fits S40 '05-'08. It does not fit my '06 S40. The side rails are about 1" longer than the stock ones on my bike. This made me question what year bike I actually have, so I took a flashlight to the shop and took a look at the steering head label....It says manufactured 08/05. That probably makes it an '06 model as I bought it for. This leaves me confused. Do you suppose my rear fender and side rails have been replaced with another years parts. My bike was purchased used, but it looks almost brand new and I have not seen any signs of repainting yet. What do you guys and gals think could be the problem? The Suzuki instructions inside the box say this item fits an LS650K5 which is supposed to be the S40.  Help.....Thanks, Dan

His ebay name is (dongeorgesports). I don't think he lied about it since the Suzuki instructions included in the package says it fits the LS650K5 which is supposed to be the S40. Maybe they are not the right instructions for what I got.

Okay, I was just wondering if maybe you bought from flightsimshop aka kwikbay because he is notorious for screwing people over. I'm afraid I can't help you on your problem though, hopefully someone else will chime in here soon with some advise.

The "5" makes it an '05

To my way of thinking, manufactured in 08/05 would mean it was made in the 8th month of 2005. To me this would be an '06 model. Besides I thought it would fit all S40s....'05 through '08. At least that is what the seller said. Maybe you meant that the stuff I got was for an '05 only. That could be. Thanks, Dan

Get your money back or an exchange. The seller should pay for return shipping.

Images stolen from Ron Ayers' microfilch...

The siderail for the sissybar does appear to be about an inch longer than the non-sissybar siderail; assuming that the microfilch drawings are near accurate.  That's a Savage set shown, bolt #8 goes thru the fender, IIRC, right where it looks like the shorter rail only has a pin.

I wouldn't trust those isometric views as being accurate.
It's very common not to update a view that has no scale.

Paladin, Those are both bolts in the two sidebars (#3 & #8). The problem is that the turnsignal would be behind the original hole in the fender. What is one to do about this? I am going to the dealer near my home and measure a new S40. Thanks, Dan

Also I have mixed and matched parts between an '88, a '96 and an '02.

The side rails from the '02 fit on the '88 with no problem.
