Jardine or Super Trapp?
11/23/09 at 16:19:15

I am seriously considering the purchase of an aftermarket muffler to replace the Dyna unit that I currently have on my bike.  After reading quite a few posts on this site, I have come to the conclusion that I either want a Jardine, or a Super Trapp.  I would appreciate any input that I can get about the relative pros and cons for each.

Thank you.

I'll sell ya jardine for a benjamin bill.
I like the jardine ... dunno about supertrapp. Jardine is so burbly and classy. Loud but classy, hard to even explain it.
Cool.

Jardine is loud.

Supertrapp can be loud depending how many disks you have.
It's also tunable for whatever jet you have installed.
great sound w/o being wake the dead loud.

I've been running a Trapp, no disks and no end cap since I bought the bike in March, 2008. Tried 6 disks w/open end cap and removed them after a few rides. I like it the way it is w/o disks, and wouldn't change a thing.

I like my Supertrapp. Its easier to tune the pipe to the carburator than to tune the carburator to the pipe. I'm just running 5 disc. Like that it produces a low rumble thats not annoying. It just sounds good. The big downside is the price.

Supertrapp,
I've got 14 discs and sounds deep but not too loud, plus It's tunable.
No question spring for a super trapp.
Hey, I've got a possibility, since my wife is taking over my savage, and she likes quiet, maybe a trade with some for the diff?
Just a thought,
Sevier

Sevier.

Thanks for the offer.  I will keep it in mind.  Right now I am still in the deciding stage.

Gerry

You only had the Dyna on for a few weeks, what didn't you like about it?

Its not that I dislike it.  Rather it is that I want to make some changes to the bike, and one of them would involve a less restrictive muffler.  Right now, I have almost convinced myself that it should be the Super Trapp, even though it is the most expensive option.  I really like the tunability, so that if I change what I want to do, I will be able to change the muffler, rather than replace it.

Jardine slash cut checking in.  It is loud, really loud.  I also have not been able to dial the carb in to stop backfiring.  Only lessen.
I haven't done any mods to the carb yet tho.

Mine actually is fine with out much at all done in the carb ... I have teh air screw too rich now ... may have to turn it in 1/4-1/2 ...
And backfiring on shut throttle isn't a sign of any problems, back firing on steady throttle or when opening the throttle = bad.
Cool.

The Supertrapp is expensive, $400! But Ive heard Jardines, harley mufflers and Gregg D,s Raask and nothing comes close to the sound of the supertrapp! Nice deep rumble, and what a cool sound when backing off the throttle.
The difference in performance from the stock muffler and a supertrapp will shock you!  Its like adding 10 more horsepower

One of each here - the '95 engine is stock except for a carb tune and has had a Jardine on it for over 10 years and >20k miles - sounds real fine and runs great.

I installed a new in the box Jardine on the '02 that over time started to rattle inside. The baffle is held in with a rivet so it takes a little extra effort to find out what is going on - that and the new jardine just flat never sounded like the old one - it was far louder and a bit harsh compared to the old one on the '95. No idea if this common on the Jardines now or not - perhaps they're not built near as well as they once were - based on the ones I have I'd say that is the case

I got a deal from somebody around here for a nearly new 'trapp that was taken off when they traded the bike in as you get nothing additional for any of the performance mods you do on trade in.

When I installed the cam and did a little head port on the '02 I also put on the 'trapp.

The playing around is here:

If your going to do more than a carb tune I'd sure be on the look out for clean 'trapp - believe I gave about $150
