For future reference there is a vent tube sticking up in the throat area of the carb that you can use to fill the float bowl with a squirt bottle. That way you don't have to take any thing loose. Works well when one has been setting too long.
I use an old quart gear lube bottle with the nozzle tip. Cool

Didn't want to start a new thread so I pulled this one up out of limbo.

Well, I've been running the van for a while now but three days ago I dang near got a ticket because of emission problems, so now I got to use my tax return (which I hope gets here soon) to rebuild the engine. I was needing to do that anyway because of it being a mosquito killer but I didn't have the finances to correct it.

Gonna completely rebuild it, not just rings, but a complete master kit, the only thing that's gonna be re-used is the crank, rods, and cam which is still pretty new. Even going to replace the intake.

Id never rebuild a grocery getter. I would either stuff a used engine in it, or get a rebuilt engine. The cost of rebuilding myself, coupled with the potential for disaster, adding all the time & hassle to the job,, heck, so much easier  to just swap  engines out. & its cheaper,

yeah, but if you have the know-how, ability and time -  rebuilds gonna be (if you do it right) more reliable than a used engine with who-knows-what kind of damage and hidden issues.  also got to be cheaper for a rebuild (excluding your labor costs) isn't it?

Most used engines around here run as much as a rebuilt engine which around here are going for a thousand dollars or more. I can rebuild my current engine for far less money and since I am doing it myself I ain't gotta pay a shop's outrageous prices.

And since I am out of work at the moment anyhow, I got the time to do it.
