Dang it, I ran out of light again. At least I managed to finish cleaning the intake and got block mating surfaces clean as well. Would have had more time but had to go to older daughter's house to put plastic over her windows.

I am so close to having that van engine done I can almost taste it.

Got the heads on and all torqued down. Taking a small break before I install the new cam and everything else.

Verslagen: I double and triple checked the head gaskets as you suggested and they were perfect. Thanks again for the tip.

Out of all the parts cleaning I did, I went and forgot to clean the oil pan mating surface. I am out of light to take care of it now, but tomorrow I will attack it. Got the majority of everything else taken care of though.

It won't be long now before she is ready to test fire.

Well, I got the engine put back together now. All that's left is attach exhaust manifolds to the pipes, connect the alternator, and then fluids. Just in time too, it snowed last night and the day before it was sleeting.

Will have to finish up when the snow melts and I get the fluids.

How much melted snow does it call for? What kinda engine IS that?

Had to find this thread again, didn't want to start another one just so I could ask this question.

Got the van where I can start it finally, but only by priming the carb. Once fuel in carb runs out it dies. Obviously a fuel delivery problem. My question is, can I install an electric fuel pump on a carburated engine without having to do a sh!t load of extra work for it to function? What I mean is, can I by pass the mechanical pump and just put in an in-line electric fuel pump?

It's cheaper & easier to replace the mechanical pump, even on a van.

Well, I have an in-line electrical fuel pump on hand that I know works. That's why I asked. Anyway, I contacted a buddy of mine and he gave me the answer I needed and also suggested that it could be as simple as a clogged up fuel line. So I'm gonna try that first.

Good idea. I will check that out as well when I work on it some more tomorrow.

Got the fuel delivery problem sorted out. Just needed to run the engine enough for the fuel pump to pick up and force fuel all the way from the tank to the carb. (remember this is a full size conversion van so the distance is relatively far.)

I took a page out of my bike repair book and filled the carb bowl itself instead of just pouring fuel down the carb mouth. It ran the engine long enough to bring the fuel.

So just a few more miner things and she will be good to go.

The van is now 100% mechanical wise. Just need insurance and registered and we can give my older daughter her escort back.

Oh and JOG? Yeah, I crumpled it up, shoved it into the bowl and fire it right up. LOL

What I did was take the fuel line loose from the in-line fuel filter and poured gas through the line till it filled the bowl. That let it run long enough for the pump to get the gas to the carb from the tank.
