With my DP bike,... I just slid the tubes up the triple tree an inch...
Make sure you won't bottom out though...

well getting the damper rod out was a PITA. The broom handle trick didn't work so I welded a nut onto the end of a piece of steel tube.
Yay, now I have a damper rod removal tool. Anyone need to borrow it?
