Crazy Boiling noise coming from the head
11/02/09 at 13:37:19

After riding and for a bit and then parking the bike I can hear a boiling sound coming from the head. It's sounds like the oil is boiling in there. This is a new issue to me. This is my third Savage and I have never heard this before. Does anyone know why or does your Savage do this? Thanks!

Abby-normal, to be sure.

Could you have fuel contaminated oil by any chance?  Moisture contaminated oil?  Something's boiling and oil doesn't usually do that.  Gas and water do though.

Check your oil for blacking and consider an oil change to a high temperature synthetic oil like Rotella Syn.

You can hear the engine cooling, but I have never heard boiling. Try using Mobil 1 15-50

check your vac line and airbox. If gas is leaking into your case that may be it you hear boiling off if something is boiling. Not good.

if overheating is causing the oil to boil, it would certainly be worth investigating.  3 areas in the head where oil can pool, cam tub, intake and exhaust valves.  The valves would be worrysome.

What does riding a bit mean? half hour of freeway? or 10 minutes down to the drugstore?

or it may be the tank venting. Every now and again I'll get back from a ride, tip the bike onto its kickstand and i can hear the tank vent for a few seconds.

Let make more guesses.....  NOT

We need info,  What year bike?  How many miles?   What Mod's done?  Your user info says South Carolina, I would think you do not have a California model, BUT... there are military bases there so you might.

Can you better describe the noise or use another descriptive (i.e. gurgling , hissing etc etc).

Is it louder on right side or left?  Front or back?
