LED Bulbs wont work???
10/25/09 at 16:06:42

Hello, I have the optronics driving lights that came with 50w bulbs.  These bulbs drained my battery so I bought 20w bulbs which work fine.  However, I found these LED lights that read 12v and 20w same as the other bulbs but these will not turn on.  Any advise why the LED bulbs wont work?

Try switching the wires to the lights. Regular bulbs don't care which lead is positive or negitive but LED's are diodes and only light up with the right polarity.

2 dumb questions, but I can't think of any others to ask !
Are you sure you have 12v getting to the lite wires?
Are you sure the lites are good

Good questions,
Yes its a 12v set up
I will try to light them up directly to see if they do indeed work.
Thanks

i had a set of those lights in the picture you posted same problem..
it was the lamp sockets brass inserts, they were expanded by the high temp of the halogen bulbs, jewelers screwdriver tightened them up..
if they are too far gone you can repalce just the sockets..

My bike will not turn on my extra brake lights unless the engine is running. Maybe not enough volts?

Thanks guys for your assistance.  I finally got the lights to work just to find out they were not bright enough.  I will keep the halogen 20w bulbs and return the LED lights.  Thanks again!

That has alway been the problem w/ replacing regular bulbs w/ leds. If you need all the light, then led is a hard expensive way to go.
But the led replacement bulbs usually consume only a fraction....like 1/10  of the amps of a regular bulb, so they are becoming popular in the interior of RVs "in no electric" camping situations.
Also be careful for the cheap leds,...they are not regulated, and do fine on 12.8 volts, but the leds will slowly burn out under higher charging voltages. We have been getting a lot of experiences w/ leds in the RV industry. A good regulated led bulb that replaces an 1156 cost $20+
A non regulated one will cost $5.95, but will not hold up.
