Savage and forward controls OK for 6'4" guy?
10/12/09 at 09:17:21

First post!

Hello, I'm an experienced rider who has always loved the looks and simplicity of the Savage. I want one, but I'm 6 foot 4 inches tall, and weigh about 190 pounds. I figure I will have to get forward controls to even have a chance of fitting on one, but do you guys think that will allow me to be comfortable at all on the bike? I also may be doing the Bobber thing if I get one...

Thank you,
Lorrin

IM 6'2" 180. Forwards werent needed for me but were nice to get. You may or may not need them for comfort but you might aswell. Ed L has sets here for about $100. Cant beat it.

I'm not 6'4 but I am 6' 240. I put forward controls and wider handlebars and upgraded pegs. Bike is comfortable for me now. You might consider 5 inch forward controls, Thats what I should have done.

A persons body proportions are important here. My wife is only 2 " taller than me, but when I get in to drive after shes been in the seat, I have to move it about 4 inches. She just has longer legs. You tall guys should share your inseam measurements with each other. That might help people decide how much extension theyll need to achieve the comfort level they want.

Ed L is the maker of the forward controls.

i'm 5'9" and i thought the 4" forwards from ed l were the best mod ever. i really dont know how some of you taller guys do it without them. next i need to find some pull back bars, i feel like i'm being pulled off of the bike, my arms can't take it.

There are only two places to get Fwd controls for our thumper. If you hunt online you'll eventually find a super chromey set for $4-600 depedning where you finally end up locating it. The other option is to make a post in the marketplace to grab Ed Ls attention. His sets are about $100 and work just dandy but are bare aluminum so if pretty is an issue for you...

Those of you who have added Ed's forward controls, are they difficult to install?

Hey, I can read, I just wanna see'm.

I've seen them mentioned quite often, but never saying what they do, or consist of. I am 6' 185, and I always feel like the bike is too short for me. From what I read here, I conclude forward controls would help my problem.
