bed liner as paint?

Have any of you painted, or seen bikes painted, with truck bed liner?
I know that it comes in different colors, and that it is almost bulletproof. The right texture and color might even look like my blue jeans.

I picked up a can of Rustoleum bed liner for about 8 bucks.  I'll use it to paint the aluminum skid plate on my dirt bike.  If the surface prep is done right, I think it will be pretty durable.. will try to remember to post results after plowing it through the sticks and stuff.

I have seen a bike painted with bed liner and it looks pretty good. The frame, tank, and fenders were done in flat black.

Several years ago a guy across the street from me restored an old Sportster. He used bed liner for the frame and powdercoated everything else in complimentary earthtone colors, not camo Wink, looked awesome.

The Buell Blast had it's "sheet metal" done in Surlyn -- that's the stuff covering golf balls.  Tough material, and the color goes all the way through.  Minor scratches just polish out.  I bet the bed liner is similar, though not as thick.

I painted mine with black liner paint. I loved the look and it is indestructible. Also an attention getter. Everyone just HAS to touch it. Good thing fingerprints don't show.

clueless - pics?

My truck has Line-X bedliner.  Absolutely love it!
I also saw a truck completely covered with something similar once at an auction.  Everyone was touching it too.  Can't remember if it sold, but it did attract attention.

I work for a truck equipment company (utility trucks/cranes/dumps/flatbeds, etc.).  If a customer wants their utility truck coated, we contract it to Line-X too.

If someone just wants to do this, would it be cheaper & would it look as" good" if they used the spray cans of undercoat that a bodyshop would use?

I used the Plasti-kote bedliner paint for the inside of my rear fender and a plate I made for under the seat. Seems to work good. Not too rough textured.

Justin,

I used the Plasti Kote spray cans. Hung the tank, fenders, etc in the trees while painting. Easy stuff to use and is tough. I'll try to find pics.

I saw a almost brand new Dodge pick-up (big thing) on I-78 in NJ that looked professionally done.   It was a double take moment....   Not too bad looking.....
