Exposed rectifier
10/07/09 at 12:34:38

I'm putting on a solo-seat, but due to time and budget restraints, I won't be able to put on a chopped rear fender for a while.  I know it doesn't look the best, but is there any trouble leaving the rectifier exposed where its presently located?  Are there any other ways to easily cover it?

Thanks.

R/R makes a good bit of heat. leaving it open is better than what suzuki did. Do not put a tight cover on it, you want it to shed heat.
On the chopper bobber after I hacked off the rear fender I put it inside my airbox. Its worked in 500 miles ... so I am leaving it there and calling it a permanent solution.
Cool.

On my brother's VN900 Vulcan, the retifier is exposed near the bottom of the front downtube(s) ... that way from factory, so there should be no prob leaving the LS650's rectifier exposed ... brother ended up dressing his up with an aftermarket chrome cover ...

Mine sits on the coal canister bracket, way down there. 1500Km so far, no problems.

Coal canister bracket? Yeah, coal canister bracket. The funny otherwise unused bracket that looks like a weird exhaust bracket to an untrained eye. Look behind the exhaust muffler, a piece of bent metal between swingarm pivot points. On bikes sold in california and some other markets, there is a coal canister there.

It's real handy to bolt other stuff to also, like a magnet to help trigger traffic lights. Wink
