Seat options

Ok, I'm still not happy with the seat on my bike.  I peeled back the cover, scooped out the butt area some with a carving knife, and inserted Saddlemen raw gel, then recovered.  Its definitely more comfortable now, but I still don't like the look and feel.

I want something similar to this:  (not necessarily exact) and I don't really care about the studs and conchos.  Shape is what I'm after.  This is a Le Pera "Sanora".

I looked at the Sportster conversion threads, but didn't see where anyone mentioned which years and tank sizes of Sportsters are easiest to convert.  I don't care much for the Corbin (no offense to those with Corbins, just not the style I'm looking for [not to mention out of my price range!])  Although, I did find a Corbin in our local ad bulletin for a Sportster, that I would be interested in seeing if it would fit, but they want $200.

Finding seats for the Sportster is much easier than finding seats for the S40.
Does anyone know what year/model/tank size/etc???
Other suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

My winter project may be re-doing the entire seat myself.  Found this website : http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/

Those seats look comfortable!(in the pics)
But dont you have wiring, etc showing when you do that?
If so,easy to fix/cover up?

I sat on a sportster seat and to me it was only a hair difference in the Savage seat.I wasnt impressed with it. Sad

I wonder if you'd like your seat any better if you just took the gel out,or cut the seat down more Undecided

Thanks!  That gives me a few more places to look.
I guess they changed the Sportster frame a bit over the years, you have to pick the year range.  1957-1978; 1979-1981; 1982-2003; 2004-2010.  Do you remember which one you ordered?

FreeSpirit - I have considered cutting into mine again, but I also don't like the "basket weave" or whatever they call it.  I'd rather have a smooth finish.....  picky, picky, picky....

Yes,I know,I dont like the basket weave or whatever you call it either Smiley

I did buy some leather to recover mine just havent gotten around to it yet.I think it was 10-$15 for the piece I bought.
Looks good, if I ever get it on there.

There's also a guy that does alot of Motorcycle seat, upholstery work, near me,and does it very reasonably priced.Around $50.

That is a option....find a guy who will do it however you want....add some, take away some, whatever.Like you like it.And have it covered in leather...or marine grade vinyl.
That can be cheaper than a new seat.

I've done my own recovering with leather and found that it faded alot in the sun.  Marine grade vinyl seems to hold up much better.  That's what I have on it now.

I was figuring marine grade too.  I'll have to go find those pics of yours unless you have some specific of the seat.  I do sew alot and have done some upholstery work, so I think I can do it!

I don't have any pics to post right now.  No sewing was required on my seat.  I just pulled tight, folded under, and stapled.  The cushioning underneath is the Diamond Jim spray foam method with one layer of sheet foam.

I sent an email to LePera over the weekend and got a response today.  From "Christine LePera"...  She apologized and said they unfortunately do not have seats for my bike, nor does she know if or when they will.  But if I'd like a custom seat, I could get back to them.  I'm thinking that would be a little (or a lot) out of my price range...

I also asked for dimensions/drawings/measurements/etc. to see if a LePera seat designed for a Sportster would work, but she didn't respond to that part of my question.  Oh well...
