"Hood Ornament"

Here is the front fender ornament that I was trying to explain in my earlier post about the talisman. In the first photo, I have a Chinese Dragon Dollar coin pressed into the opening, but any coin of the same size would work. the two pins front and back are simply locater pins. The coins have threaded tubes soldered to the back, and it is this bolt that actually holds the ornament in place.
I used nickel silver and Sterling to make the parts...just like Dusenberg!
In the picture of it mounted on the bike I used the Morgan dollar.
Not to bad for Hand made!!!
I wonder if GM needs me?

Howzabout some pics of the screw part under th coin? I reakky like what youve done there. How about a "tour" A kind of How To>?, Show the tools you used, raw materials, where to get raw materials, how you formed it all up, how you attached the pieces. You really did a cool thing there..

I will try to get something posted, but I think that I am about to get relocated back east so it might be a while. In the mean time, the basics are pretty simple. You can buy a micro torch from Harbor Freight for about 50.00 and any large community college should have staff that can get you started with silver solder. As for the sterling and nickel; here in AZ it is everywhere due to the native American silver industry. Check with you local craft suppliers. Silver, brass, copper, are all much cheaper than you might imagine.

I have about five years making silver jewelry and I would rate this project as a five or six on a scale of ten.

I love it!  But I'd hate to drill holes through my fender.  "If" I ever sold the bike, I would probably want to keep my Talisman (which also brings me to the point that I don't know if I could decide on a coin with significance to me).  I do have some Italian coins that are special to me, but then I'd hate to lose one....  ugh.... sorry to ramble.

But thanks for sharing and for the ideas.  I might try something like this over the winter!

Why drill holes! Just use automotive double sided tape!

People rip the H off of a stupid Honda for a lousy trophy...double sided tape just isnt stout enough to make me feel good about leaving it in a parking lot for a minute.
