I just called about 2007 Sportster Custom,523 miles. $5600, sounds cheap but are they any good I haven't rode one in over 20 years.Saddlebags, Crashbars, Backrest. Its got a 4 1/2 gallon tank and fuel injection. It was a women she said she didn't have time to ride. Most likely she would come down a little from that price.

It's a great price. New stock w/o options go for around $10k up hear. I have not hear bad things about the bike.

Bill the newer Harleys are good motorcycles. They are heavy but built like tanks and other than changing oil pretty much maintenance free. My brother has an 03 Fatboy with 47,000 mi on it and no problems at all so far. The Sportsters still vibrate but its not so bad you can't ride it 100 mi. One thing about Harleys, aftermarket parts are plentiful and cheap. If I found a deal on a used Harley I wouldnt hesitate at all to buy it. If you don't like it and decide to sell you're not going to lose money.

As a former Sporty rider, I can tell you that the first time that you shift into first gear, you are going to wish that you had your Savage transmission and clutch back.  The longer you ride it, the more you will miss the Savage and its pleasant manners.

The maintenance seems real easy on them..... At least it looked like it would be with everything in easy reach,no struggle to get to anything.

That is one thing I like about them Smiley

I hear they get really good MPG. The only reason I would ever buy a bike that heavy would be if I thot I could flip it & make some money. Sounds like a good price, but I havent gone & checked the book o n it/

That seems like a decent price for the Sportster!

FWIW ... I love the Sportster! Classic, no-frills motorcycle ... have Ridden one and think they're great ... love everything about 'em ... 'cept the weight ... if a Sportster weighed in at 400 or so lbs, I'd have one! I love my S40 for all the same reasons I love the Sporty ... similar styling, similar "character" and the bonus of it being a lighter weight!

But the price is OK for this one. I dunno, Bill... If you have the cash - have at it. I probably would.

As a Sporty and S40 owner I will take the Sporty any day of the week. MUCH more power at least with my 1200, more room, better mileage, bigger tank and the ability to do all day rides without stopping every 100 miles. The vibration on the new Rubber Mounts is nothing to what they use to be, the mirrors on the S40 vibrate much more. As for the top heavy feeling, you get use to it very fast and can lay into a turn much more than what you think you can. I think it feels very much the same as the old Honda 750. I don't get on this site much, mainly because of the Harley bashing. I love riding my S40!  It's great around town at lower speeds, but for anything more I will take a bigger bike, with more weight and stability.

It is a super deal if you want a sporty.  Jump on it.  I had a '99 883 for a year and found it to be a very good road bike.  Some folks talk about excess vibration on the older models......they don't know what vibration is.  Try a 50's model 500 single; that is vibration.  The '99 was very smooth on the road, even a bit soother than my Savage.  I found the sporty to be the same structural size as the Savge as far bars to seat, and since the sporty had stock mid-pegs it was more cramped than the Savage extended pegs.
I sold the sporty because I did not care for the extra weight (2x my Savage) and the slower handling.  The Savage is much quicker and responsive.

Rooky my dear fellow ... there is very little, if any Harley bashing on this Site ... Savage/S40 owners are some of the most open-minded motorcyclists I've had the pleasure to have been associated with ... and many are fans of the Sportster in particular because the LS650 and the XL's are very much "cousins" in a real sense ... try finding another Metric and Harley that are as similar in most every aspect as the Sporty and the Savage?

Never had a chance to ride the Sportster's post evo, but have heard good things about them. Owned 2 iron head Sporty's in my life. I will always miss the '72, but never had any affinity for the '84. That bike always gave me problems, right down to the blown rod (probably due to previous owners not taking care of it though).

Uncle Larry rode my Savage back to the house for me after my incident last Sunday. He rides a 1200 Sporty. They only negative thing he had to say about my bike was "the front end felt a bit wobbly." Other than that, he had a good time ripping through the twisties in the rural area.

I've always liked Sporty's and can't think of anything bad to say about them. New prices are a bit high, and you can get a lot more bang for the buck buying a newer Suzi S83 which is what I'd prefer.

I've always been a Suzuki guy,  but never likes the looks of the S83 or S50,Something just don't look right to me. They have more of a toy look than motorcycle.
