I get 59 MPG with a 06. Have a windshield and saddle bags, no performance mods. Combination of Hwy and side cruises, but in South FL there are no hills, except if you count bridges. Usually ride conservatively on the HWY, about 70-73 MPH.

Just how badly do hills affect MPG? I mean, sure, its working its little butt off going up, but hills usually have a down side, too..dont they? Shouldnt that Coasting Down effect kinda offset that Chugging Up thing?

For some reason,... I get my best mileage on my mountain ride... usually 63 to 65 mpg....
The ol' girl don't even feel the climbs and the downhills take no gas at all...

I get an easy 60 mpg, probably a bit more. no hills here though. just overpasses, I ride a mix of highway and town driving, average speed is probably 50 mph but I punch it to 70 mph if I have to on my short stretch on the interstate

Just got back from a 100 mile r/t mostly 50-60 mph on open farm roads. Filled up, rode 80 miles and filled up again. She took 1.6 gallons. Not good at math, so don't know what the mpg was. Seems good though  Wink

Miles Per Gallon = Miles divided by gallon

80 divided by 1.6 = 50 & 50 x 1.6 = 80 50 x 1 = 50   & . 6 X 50 = 30
30 + 50 = 80

its not about being good at math, its all about how the problem is looked at. Lots of ways to go at them, but division is about the hardest for me,, no , it IS.

To get the best mileage from a Savage you really need a top quality OIL. Yessir, that's what makes the difference. Let me run out to the shop and see what brand and weight I use. Meanwhile you can discuss it among yourselves.  Boofer

57.0 mpg average on mine (see signature) for the last 3,000 miles (the bike currently has 10,000 miles on it).

Stock as far as engine and carb go, small windscreen, almost exclusively urban riding.

When I had my stock (no mods) '03 Savage, I routinely got mid-60's mpg when Riding some of our coastal bi-ways at speeds of 50-70kph with no "stop n' go" traffic ... around town, commuting, etc. usually 50+ish ...
My current '05 S40 has the enrichment srew out about 1-turn and gives 50-55mpg under almost all Riding conditions ... I haven't been able to better it ...

I get around 50-55 mpg too, commuting (streets/freeway).  It was pretty much the same stock as it is now. Huh

I taught myself to do math ( basic, add is easiest, X, next down, subtract, then divide is hardest for me) in my head. Took quite a few years, but I can do %s almost w/o pausing, in conversation.I sucked at math in school, dropped out of High School. Ive taught myself more math than the whole 11 years of school I got.
