crankcase breather filter?
09/09/09 at 10:02:00
I'm looking to ditch the air box for a cone filter, but what do i do with the crankcase breather tube, do I just pull it out of the box and stick a mini crankcase filter on it? what happens to any junk that comes out of the tube?
also what size K&n filter do i need to fit go on the stock carb inlet rubber?

I just installed one of the mini crank case filters on mine. Got it for $10 from Advance Auto.
I haven't had anything come out of my filter yet, but I can tell it's got some oil in it and it's going to need cleaned or replaced at some point.
I've got a cone filter from Lancer (they were being sold via the board store), but I don't remember the dimenions. I know the K&N part # has been posted time and time again though if you search for it.

I've done it, I have it... and I can't remember the KN part #
Search on ebay, that's how I got mine.
You need some kind of breather filter, for now I simply jammed a paper core fuel filter in the hose, but you need something.

An inline fuel filter from a lawn mower works great, get two and use the other on the fuel line.

And this is your Air filter:

Mounts on the carb itself, not on the rubber.

Some members recommend that you run the filter higher than the engine, so that condensed oil fumes will run back down the hose into the crankcase. I ran mine lower than the top of the engine and it sometimes will let go a drip of oil.

I got mine from a motorcycle store locally and it is orange and black. I just took my tube in with me and we found something to fit inside and I used a clamp to keep it tight. I also have since trimmed my tube way down so it is right under my tank. I also have a '75 sportster tank.
