Baffle, Stock Muffler and other Option

What will happen if I take the baffle out of my Stock muffler?
I know it would be louder,but how much louder?
Would I have to change anything else?
Would just drilling holes be better?
I want all/ any details,please.

I did a search here,spent over an hour reading posts and still didnt see anything on this!

I really would like a better sounding muffler,but where I didnt have to change anything else...if that's possible.

Also what did this person do to their muffler?????
It sounds good enough to me! But dont have a clue what they did.

I drilled (8 7/32 holes) my stock muffler and I like it. Idle sounds really nice. It backraps a little when shifting, and its not obnoxiously loud. Rich

I love the sound of mine. A nice low rumble but not loud enough to annoy anyone.

I had already done the while spacer mod and just needed to adjust the idle mixture screw a little. Mine does have a little gurgle when I slow down.

maybe if I understood the reason for re-jeting,it would help more.(which I will google and see if I can find/understand why)

The very end of my muffler has quite a bit of rust,so I may have to replace it (with a stock or different one )one day in the near future anyway.

And one problem I get is...a few guys locally try to tell me what to do,muffler-wise,but I dont feel they know the Savage that well.Because it dosent sound right according to what I read in the forum. Undecided

(I think they're use to Harleys!)

The reason we rejet is, the bike is set up to run lean, from the factory. My understanding is that its done like that to help the bike get thru certain EPA requirements. Some older models had reasonable jetting from the factory, back before the EPA requirements. Running lean, as it does, makes it run hotter & decreases performance & makes it backfire & just generally isnt okay, so, we rejet, even if leaving the exhaust stock. Now, you go a diddlin with the way it breathes & getting the airflow thru the motor working smoother & faster, that will lean it out some MOre, so ya sure gotta rejet, then.

IDK how the Dyna flows compared to the stock unit, but, unless its old enough to be jetted right, it needs rejeted. Even if you leave the stock exhaust.

Mine is a 2002. Not sure what year Prechermike's is!
Maybe he'll see this and tell me/us.

And another thing...I really dont know what the original owner did to the bike before I got it! Another guy bought it from the him and kept it maybe a month or two before I bought it.
He didnt tell me anything,if he even knew. Undecided

All I know is it looked really good...like someone had taken care of it.

I am right about sea level on the North Carolina coast. What else you want to know?

Prechermike....I just had a feeling yours may be older than mine...the reason you didnt need to rejet. After reading Justins post/info.

But I do think its good to have the year of the bike in the signature....so now I'll have to do that myself. Wink

After about a week on my 2001 I noticed a screw wedged into the stock muffler end. I removed it and the little 3/4"x4" baffle slid out. It sounds better at idle. What I intend to do is get someone to ride away from me to see if I like it. It's hard to tell what others hear when riding.

Plan B (And I would appreciate comments on this.) I want to drill two 1/4" holes 180 degrees apart in the round plate and see what happens. I want to continue drilling until I mess up or get what I want. I think I could then force slightly larger screws back into these holes if needed. Comments please. Am I headed in the wrong direction?

Ya know I didnt notice until just now,but the video(link) above that I posted says "Savage with "hartman-like" mod done to muffler " I like the sound of it! Not too loud but good.
