Can you access the spark plug wire without taking the tank off to use an induction wire for a  tach?

Sorta.  I was able to access the spark plug wire by just propping the front of the tank up enough to get my hands in there.

No need to disconnect any fuel, vacuum, speedo, or electrical connections.

what do you do ,remove a few bolts and the tank will lift up enough to attach the wire?

you remove two bolts, where the seat touches the tank. Remove seat. Than lift that end a bit, wiggle and pull about an inch rearwards. This will get the tank loose. Lift front end. Not as easy as it sounds. Good luck with getting it all back as it was. Even harder.

Once you get it off the first time, it is pretty easy after that, Lift up and to the right rear to clear the gas thingy.

Yeah, the petcock seems to be in the way all the time. As Oldnewguy said, you do it right once, it becomes routine. Not easy but not overly hard to do.

I bought mine on ebay. Do the search on this forum for tach or tachometer. There was a recent post about what fits what not.
