kickstand digging into asphalt...
08/23/09 at 13:41:27

Anyone experienced this?  I live in Texas, and I guess it's so hot and the quality of the asphalt is so cheap at our apartment complex that my kickstand literally digs into the parking lot.

I don't wanna get charged for tearing up the place.  What can I do about this?

Most parking spaces have at least one portion that has a curb, either in front or on the side.  Try angling your bike so that the sidestand is on the concrete, make sure the bike is leaning and not too upright otherwise it may fall over to the right side.

Or you can crush a soda can and use that as a foot.  They also make other bike-specific items to help stop this problem but being a Savage owner I presume most on here aren't made of money.

Flatten an empty beer can and slip it under the kickstand arm. If you need help getting an empty can let me know. This works in southeast Texas.http://suzukisavage.com/yabb2.2/Templates/Forum/default/cheesy.gif

Grab something to use as a kickstand support the next time you park your bike.  I'd suggest a little scrap of wood, I've seen people use a piece of thick cardboard or even a hockey puck.  A 2" x 3" rectangular object of whatever material should work well and can fit in a pocket to carry from one location to another.

Exactly Pabst...I made this out of a scrap piece of wood I found at work. It's 4"x4"x1/4"

I attached a piece of string to it for easy retrieval...don't have to bend down to pick it up... Wink

I store it in my bag behind my seat. Works great for hot asphalt, gravel lots, and grassy areas.  Cool

This problem has so many potential answers, Man, try sumpin! You cant go wrong on this one, unless you go for the Saran Wrap, that stuff's just too flimsy.

I keep a small block of wood and a small flat piece of metal in my bags.  The 2 sizes come in very handy when you have to park the bike in unfavorable terrain such as not flat or soft material.  Nothing like pulling over on the side of the road only to find the kickstand sinks into the dirt, sand, or hot pavement.

I got a hockey puck bolted to the bottom of mine,... but I have 12" shocks and needed the lift....
You could do the same with a thin metal plate,... like an electrical cover plate or something...

Some MC dealers either give away or sell real cheap (for advertising) plastic kickstand plates. If you attach them to a cheap dog leash and slip the leash over the handlebar when in use, you won't forget it. I use what I consider a really obnoxious color (fluorescent purple) and haven't had any problem with it being stolen. The ones I have came with a hole pre-drilled for just that purpose (maybe with a string or wire in mind rather than a dog lease).
