Newbie - need some advice/suggestions
08/18/09 at 19:20:05

Newbie here!!  The funny thing is – I wasn’t really looking for a streetbike.  I was surfing thru Craigslist and found a guy wanting to trade his 2004 Savage with a windshield, saddlebags and only 2800 miles for an ATV.  I had a 2005 Suzuki Ozark 250 collecting dust in the garage and after a few emails back and forth – we made an even trade.  The Savage runs great but I haven’t been able to take it a “real” ride yet.  I'm a little worried about the comfort level - I'm 6'2" and 230 lbs.

I’m not crazy about the buckhorn handlebars.  I’d like to get some drag style bars with some risers or ???  I don’t want anything too low - any advice/suggestions?

Also, I'm thinking about getting an engine guard and highway pegs - any advice/suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the inputs.  I’m looking forward to being a part of the Savage Brother/Sisterhood - from what I've seen so far - everyone here is very helpful.

Talk to you later!

Marc

hey mark,
6' 240# myself
go down to the local independant and pick out some mini apes, more or less the same hight of the buckhorns but less pull back about 30" wide.  The pull back you want is like the drags or straighter.
next you'll want to raise the seat front an inch or two.
also a HD sportster seat will raise you up and back a bit
or look for ed L's forward controls.
