Carb Cleaner
08/17/09 at 12:58:36

How thoroughly do I need to remove any carb cleaner I sprayed to clean the carbs?  I know it can eat plastic, so I avoided those places, but is it enough just to blow some compressed air over it afterwards or will it be a problem?

I believe carb cleaner is supposed to dry with no residue, so just letting it dry before reassembly should be fine.  If I'm wrong, somebody please chime in! Cheesy

Pfffft...  Getting ahead of myself, clearly.  The screws on the top of the carb are already stripped and despite spraying it with all manner of stuff I've just made it worse.  Going to have to buy a screw extractor and some new screws today, I think.

Do you remove tough, stuck on screws, Phelonius?

I've been successful on carbs for years using gunsmiths hard punches with sharp edges.  Can generally get a nice wedged angle where the punch has no choice but to bite the edge of the screw deeply.  Doesn't take much force, just lots of taps of moderate force to start the screw.  Once the screw is moving, can slot and use a screwdriver.

If the screw still has a head, vice grips work well.

The issue here is either locktite or corrosion.
If you reassemble with SS screws, use anti sieze.

for me, two came out fine, the other two...

1) came out with the vice grips
2) couldnt get a good grip, so i used a hacksaw and made a cut accross the top of the head as far deep as i could, took a large flathead, banged it in the groove a few times and slowly got it loose.

Judging by the grime on the rest of it, I'm going to say corrosion.

Are there any screws that anti-seize would be bad on?
