kickstand wreck

a motorcycle wrecked a few miles from my house the other day, i guess it was somebody from my area- he forgot to put his kickstand up and rode away.

apparently he did ok until he came to a sharp left turn and went down.  fortunately no major injuries.

maybe that infernal kickstand kill switch IS a good idea

It IS a good idea, even if it can sometimes be a nuisance.

2 weeks ago (Aug 2009) a friend of mine went off the road and down
a cliff when his ninja 250's center stand got in the way during a sharp
curve. It seems that the thing had been kinda lose for a while but
sadly never did anything about it and now has a broken arm, wolverine
screws and no bike, but he's fine and recovering well; last Sunday we
went and recovered the bike that rested 200ft down the cliff.

That infernal kickstand switch enables folks who should not be riding motorcycles to do so. Thereby raising MY insurance premium rates.
Generally speaking, if they forget the kick stand when they ride away, they will forget other more important things too.

So, Phelonius, you are telling us YOU have never forgotten anything? Or never made a mistake? Never had any sort of safety device keep you from hurting yourself? You are a rare person, indeed.

I'm a centerstand kind of guy.  ALL my previous bikes have had 'em, and that's what I usually use.  If nothing else, it lets me get to both saddlebags so I can load the bike evenly.  Besides, it's fun to ride the bike off the centerstand.  (All centerstands are ride-off when you know how.)

My Triumph holds more gas when it's filled on the sidestand, and the Suzuki only has the sidestand.

So now I'm using the sidestand a lot more, and I don't have a lifelong habit of raising it hardwired into my brain.  Until I do, I like the sidestand switch!  I'm even learning to like the annoying habit of the Triumph engine to shut down if I put it in gear with the stand down!

I just think of it as a training tool!   Wink

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Actually if you want to verify my most recent mistake, go to my thread on oil leak about two weeks ago.
Besides which, I am fully capable of hurting my self without technical help from devices.

I don't really NEED the animals to do it but they make it easier.
